We Scream for Ice Cream Read the Room Kit Give Away

This will be the quickest giveaway known to mankind….not really.

I walked into my classroom Monday and this sweet baby was waiting for me. So excited! Well, on Friday they finalized all the installations(every teacher in our school got one). I’m working on flipcharts all this weekend. I can hear you…GET TO THE GIVEAWAY!

Well, I just uploaded two new activities to TpT and all you have to do is leave a comment telling me how you use the Promethean or Smart Board in your classroom. I have some ideas…but I’m anxious to hear how others are using theirs.

The contest ends Saturday night at midnight CST. I’ll post the winners on Sunday.

I’m choosing three winners! You can select the We Scream for Ice Cream Read the Room Kit, We Scream for Ice Cream Sentence Reading Kit, or the Bugging Out for Addition and Subtraction Activity.

  1. I use my Promethean Board for everything!! We have both Smart and Promethean, so I am lucky to be able to use both programs. I start the morning with a student check in on the board, we have all our calendar activities on it too. During my centers, the board is always up with some type of practice game we have done already. I use it for writing workshop, I use it for math, science and social studies. I have recently used the activotes for assessing my students. They absolutely love using them and keep asking me to use them again! I have had my board for 2 years now and I don't know how I ever did without it! I have even shown short video clips on it too! Enjoy it! You will LOVE it!!

  2. I too use if for my calendar math. I teach Treasures Reading, so I retype the words on the flipchart so EVERYONE can see them. I make flipcharts for grammar (basically I turn the worksheets in the TE into interactive activities). Our grade level LOVES promethean planet because 1. its free and 2. there are a million flipcharts already made so we don't have to create everything. Be sure to check it out! You will love it too!

  3. I have a SmartBoard and use it for everything. I guess my favorite is that I scanned all our Math Journal (Everyday Math) pages are scanned in. I can pull up the pages we are doing and we can work on them together. This is especially helpful for those who struggle.

I like that I can save and go back as needed, for those who don't understand and for those who were absent.

  5. I use my board for everything! The "planet" has amazing activities that you can download and I don't remember how I taught without my board. I am the tech coach at my building, as well as teach 1st, so I wanted one for a long time and we were blessed to each get one last year from our PTSO! Our district has an exchange that we share flipcharts with one another. Our Treasures' units are each on a flipchart, so we don't have to rely just on pencil/paperwork and the kids adore it.

My ActivBoard is also one of my center rotations. I change the activities each week and they range from putting cereal boxes in ABC order to using the fridge magnets (you can download them on Promethean Planet) for spelling and high frequency words. The kids can't wait to go to that center.

Your teaching will never be the same and for the BETTER! Enjoy it!

  6. We only have one Smart Board on our grade level right now but the teacher who's room it's in is so gracious is sharing. We use ours for immediate research and finding answers to the students' natural curiosities. Because there is SO much software out there all we have to do is type something in the search box and BAM up comes a picture or video...which explains the answer to our kinders better than we could about 99% of the time. :)

  7. I am an early childhood education major, and although I haven't played much with a smart board I am collecting lessons for my next internship which will have a smart board! bwatson6@live.com

  8. I was blessed to be part of the opening team of a brand new school last year, which was equipped with Promethean Boards in every classroom. I use mine for absolutely everything, from flipcharts to watching TV. My students have become so proficient by this time of the year that I don't even have to worry about any mess ups. Promethean Planet is an amazing resource and you can even download the Smart Board free program so you can adapt items to your Promethean! Welcome to our little part of the technology world, you will love every minute of it.

  9. I have an elmo but not a smart board. My friend had one in Palos Verdes (CA) school district and she loved it. I remember her using for a graphing lesson.

  10. I make a spelling center out of it.
Page 1- alphabet blocks: they spell 5 spelling words
Page 2- fill in the blank words: the missing letters are scattered over the page
    Page 3- sort the words
Page 4- fill in the blank sentences
Then they can turn the page and practice writing them in all different colors! FUN!!!
And I can quickly check and see who needs help with each page. Love it.

  11. I have a SmartBoard and cannot imagine my classroom without it! I do my calendar math on the SmartBoard each day. I also have the students check in every morning to help me take attendance. They have an icon with their name that they touch and then it fades out to show me they are hear. The students left are absent. Hope that makes sense! I use the SmartBoard to show educational videos since my computer has a DVD player. We play interactive games together as a class. I also use my document camera with it. It projects my image onto the SmartBoard. Congratulations on your new classroom addition!!

  12. I only have an eBeam, not SmartBoard, but I still use it for everything. My favorite this year has been my center rotations for Guided Reading and Literacy Stations and math stations. My rotation schedule is on the board for students to see what center to go to. It is so easy to change around (I can't stand the pocket chart cards for centers...they hurt my head keeping it all straight).

  13. I absolutely love a smartboard and miss having one in my room. I used it for everything - math, reading, writing, etc. always to make it interactive for the kids. it is one of the best ways I have found to get them up and involved. I have a list of sites that are wonderful for this.

I would LOVE your ice cream kit. My theme is ice cream!!

  14. Thanks soooo much for the latest read the room packet! Aaand, Tippy toe chick, go activities! We were on the S.A.M.E. story this week and the kids will be stoked when I bring out these little babies this week. : )
We have Promethean boards too!! I use mine all day, every day...from attendance, to internet based activities, flipcharts....but, I see so many CUTER SMartlessons. Hoping someone can share how or if to import smartlessons to promethean boards??? You will L.O.V.E. it and wonder how you ever taught without it.

  15. I use my smartboard for everything! I write out our morning journal starters on it. Then my students use the internet to pull up the weather channel website to find the current temperature and forecast as we do the calendar (I still do the calendar the old fashioned way--not sure if I'll ever do that all on the smartboard.). Our reading program, Open Court came with a Teacher Management CD which had a copy of all of the student workbooks, so I open the program and use the smartboard markers to write on the workbook pages. This was especially helpful early on in the year when first graders have a tough time finding the correct locations to write on workbook pages. I love to use my smartboard for math, you can use the gallery for all the manipulatives you could need. 10's and 1's, coins, clocks, you name it. Sounds like I like my smartboard huh? LOL Well I also love your read the room kits!

  16. We use it everyday! The kids love it! I use it for daily calendar; I have the students come and drag their name to who is here first thing in the morning. Each page of the calendar focuses on a different skill, such as making the date different ways (like tallies, money, etc.) I use it as one of my centers. I created different "Smartboard Centers" by linking four sites and students can choose which to play, while I'm pulling Reading Groups. It's amazing how quick they learn to use it! Another teacher and myself created Houghton Mifflin Math Expressions lessons and we use them instead of having to carry the super heavy book! You're going to love the new addition!

  17. I use the Promethean for everything and love it! We use it for journal writing in the morning, flipcharts, Powerpoints, watching movies and tv, note-taking, playing Riverdeep games, and just plain bringing lessons to life.

  18. Here are a few tips I use all the time:
-You can take screen shots of the online teacher manuals and then use them in your flipcharts. We put all of our basil stories on flipcharts.

-I love a feature called "drag a copy." I use it the most with math manipulatives. Once you have a clipart (ex. quarter) you can right click on the object then choose "drag a copy". It will allow you to drag as many quarters as you want. Until I found this little feature, I spent a lot of time copying and pasting quarters then lining them up. Hope that makes sense.

    - I have put a lot of song files into the flipcharts. No more looking for songs on a CD during calendar time. Now, I just click on the song link and it plays my song from iTunes.

  19. I don't have either a SmartBoard nor a Promethean board in my room... but we do have a Mimio attachment that turns our whiteboard into an interactive surface! My favorite thing to use it for right now is word building.. the class writes on their own whiteboard or journal, while one kiddo demonstrates how to build the word in question!

  20. I use my Promethean board for many things. I post my morning math journal problem on it. Children then correct it directly on the board. I also use it as a center for my center rotation. Children play interactive games and perform various activities. I also use it as a "screen" for viewing things from the internet like Bookflix books. I use is for any use which I used to use the whiteboard, making bubble maps, circle maps, venn diagrams etc. You will discover many more uses for it! Congratulations!

  21. I have a SMARTslate which can be manipulated through the projector onto my whiteboard. I've only had it for about a month but use it all day! We have the TREASURES reading program and by googling you can get copies of all the workbooks so they can be projected and used as a teaching tool. Our Math series also came with a CD which contains all the student pages so again I can project it and we can use it instead of having the kids do everything on paper themselves. I also use the SMARTboard notebook exchange for great leasons. I can't imagine not having it now!

  22. I have a SMARTboard and use it for EVERYTHING!!! We have a cute, themed attendance page on when they come in. Then we have or jukebox (themed as well)...they touch a picture and the song starts playing!! (Soooo cool) Then we begin our calendar time which is all on SMARTboard and themed! I also do my literacy stations rotation chart on the SMARTboard! During centers the SMARTboard is available with themed activities all organized in folders. I love it!!!!

  23. This is my 3rd year teaching and got a smartboard last year. I use it for EVERYTHING. My kids LOVE IT! We use to for everything from Lunch Count, Morning Calendar, Station Work, Math Games, Writers Workshop. You name it we use it. Since I am a bilingual teacher I usually have to make all of my stuff on the SmartBoard software but it's soooo easy to do. My kids love all the games and how interactive it is. Good Luck on this new venture and let me know if I can be of any help! :)

  24. I've had a Smartboard for about a month and already I wonder how I ever taught without it. I have been making jeopardy games for my first graders---just visit jeopardylab.com and create a jeopardy game. I've created a game for math (doubles, doubles+1, related facts, counting on, counting back) and then I created a language arts one for word chunks. I have also used it for some math activities and other games. I used it to show a brainpop jr. video on an author as well. I can tell it's going to change my teaching! I love it already and I haven't really had training yet. I think you'll love it!

  26. Oh, that is so exciting! I use my Smart Board for online games, Lakeshore interactive games I have purchased, to take attendance, lunch orders, to share Weekly Reader online materials, gee, I could go on and on.......but it has truly been an awesome tool and my kiddos just love it!

  27. We use our Promethean board every day for Calendar Math. I found my template on Promethean Planet (awesome resource!), but I plan to add to it for next year.

I like using the templates in the Inspire software. The magnetic letters are great for making words. We use the magnetic numbers to write addition and subtraction problems. I love the interactive clocks, too.

I also use the Promethean as a center. On Fun Friday I use the coloring pages or the dot-to-dot pages for a different activity.

I also love that I can import SmartBoard lessons and use them with few changes.
    Enjoy!

  28. I am new to using a promethean board. I use it for calendar time. I found a great one on Promethean Planet. It includes the calendar, counting money, telling time, hundreds, tens, and ones,as well as counting the days of school with tally marks. I have also found some good phonics sorts on the Planet as well. I must say I am anxious to see what you create as I love the other things you have done! SDNana

  29. We use our smartboard more than anything else in our room! I love playing games on it (check out literactive.com -- learning activities). We also use our document camera and project on the smart board to do mini lessons for writer's workshop and Handwriting Without Tears. I am still learning how to use the games, but I find myself googling a topic and the word "smartboard" and you will be amazed at what is already out there! It's great - enjoy and have fun!

  30. I use the Smart Board everyday in my classroom for math. I scan every page of our math book so that I have it on the Smart Board. If the lesson requires manipulatives, I make them for the smart board and either put them on the page or do a split screen. The infinite cloner tool is the best!

  31. I use the activeboard for math and reading. I use it for daily reading comprehsion. I read a story and the students vote on the right answer to the questions. I am so glad you got one, you will use it daily I promise

  32. I use the smarboard for calendar. Our math adoption has online resource. Instead of printing the document, I send it to the smartboard. Then the whole class can see the printable. Additionally I use online instructional models which provide an animated demonstration of the topic. I also use digital manipulatives to help with math concepts.

P.S. I am super jealous of your sweet setup. You have a short throw projector which will be nice because it will eliminate many of the shadows. Enjoy!

  33. I use it for everything! I can't imagine teaching math without my smart board. Smart Exchange is a great FREE resource that I get a lot of things from and modify to fit the needs of my class. We also have Smart responders which are very fun to use with my first graders. It makes the smart board even more interactive. Enjoy using it! You are going to love it!

  34. I don't know if I can ever teach again without my smartboard. I use it everyday for my entire calendar, morning activity time, which includes calendar, days of school, odd/even, money, time, etc. I also use if during reading for word sorts, grammar work, spelling, etc. We use it to build background by watching short videos in discovery education. I could go on and on and on but I don't want to use up all your space. You will LOVE it!

  35. I use it a lot!! I scan in my workbook pages so that I can work along with the kiddos. We also do calendar on them. Check out the smart exchange website for some all ready made Notebook files!!
