I got permission from Mrs. Larremore at Chalk Talk to provide a link to her post about problems downloading from Googledocs and Docstoc.

Thank you for the link. It worked perfectly. I downloaded Firefox and all is working now. In the meantime I stumbled upon something else that worked. In google docs I was able to send the doc to my email. Then it could open up the pdf and save it. It was a step that took much longer but it worked.
