Number Talk Templates

Happy Sunday!!

I don’t have lots of pictures to share this week. For the past two weeks I feel like I’ve been out of my classroom more than in. My district is adopting a new math textbook and I am one of dozens of lucky teachers who get to serve on the selection committee.  So every week I have to leave school early and attend a meeting. Can I just say selecting a textbook for the entire school system is extremely hard.

And I also have to admit that after the tornadoes  it’s been hard getting my focus back on school. I don’t feel like myself,  my creativity has hit a wall, and I’ve been kinda going through the motions.   I know that’s bad but I’m hoping to do some blog and Pinterest stalking to get the gears cranked up again. But driving through my neighborhood every morning looking at the destruction is difficult.

Okay, that’s enough self pity for one post and  I know you don’t what to hear my sad little story, so on to the real teacher stuff.

I’ve gotten lots of e-mails about my Number Talk/Spiral Review papers.

I don’t sell them on TpT..but I am giving you a sample. I uploaded it in Word but then they looked all crazy…so I saved them as a PDF. I wanted very much to give them to you as a template so you could change what you wanted to suit your needs, but alas the trials of technology.

I uploaded one from the first of the year, the middle of the year and my most current one.

If you have tomorrow off…lucky you!  If you have the week off…I envy you.

If you don’t have any of that..I commiserate with you…and just know we will have a wonderful week.

  3. Most of us have never experienced a tornado. As I read your post I tried to imagine what it would be like to see what you see as you drive to work each morning and it made me so sad. It really is beyond anything I have experienced. Please give yourself lots of grace. You (and everyone else in your area) are in survival mode right now. Your students are so lucky to have you there to keep part of their life stable. Just take each day at a time and allow yourself (and your children) time to recover. Lots of hugs to you!

  5. Oh sweetie..I know what you're going through..I've lived through a tornado too..my first year as a teacher the school where I worked was destroyed by a tornado. The aftermath is the most difficult part..picking up the pieces and continuing to teach was hard but I got through it and so will you. Know that you are in my prayers. :)
Thanks for sharing your hard work with us..I love this and I know my firsties will too.

  18. Thank you so much for sharing. I live in GA and know how your area got hit (my ILs live in Moody,AL). Anyway, I am a mom of a 1st grader who craves math challenges beyond his classroom. I just have a question about the week 14 set and how to show my son how to complete the story problem section. I am not 100% sure.

    Thanks again!

  19. Anonymous,
Just above the story problem section it says. "show 15 two ways." and one of the ways is a short story problem using whatever number they have to show for the day. I hope that helps!

  21. Thanks for sharing your number talk pages. I'm curious, what math textbooks are you considering. We currently use Saxon math, but the more I look at CCS it's just not cutting it.
    Thank you!

  22. Hey Mrs. Christiansen,
We've been looking at Go Math, Investigations, Think Math, My Math, EnVisions, and Everyday Math so far. We have two more publishers to listen to, then we'll make a final decision.
Hopefully by the middle of March.
