Here’s your chance to win my newest Read the Room Kit before I post it to my storefront. I’ll give this kit away to the first five people who  comment about how you structure word work in your classroom.

Don’t forget to leave your e-mail in your post.

  2. I structure word work through word walls, independent activities, sight word activities, through phonics, etc. I am a K-5 special education teacher, so I differentiate a lot of my word work activities. Here's my e-mail: BPaigeMiller@hotmail.com

    Thanks!

  6. I use daily 5 to review. We have lots of games focusing on the trimester expectations. I also have word study in the afternoon to focus on the week's skills.

    Hope I win!

  7. We base our word study on our shared reading for the week. Often we pull Fountas and Pinnells Phonics Lessons activities to correlate. Currently, we're working on digraphs...usually a sorting/write the word activity for my at level learners, while my upper level workers had to sort digraphs by where they heard them in a word, beginning, middle, OR end.

    Great blog!

  10. I structure word work through the use of stations just like this one! I love using scrabble tiles, large magnetic letters and stamps. Students find patterns in big books and poems that we have read and I love to use word sorts to help see patterns in words.

  12. I use making words. I made these cool making words folders (the idea is from Jessica Meacham). I also use sound boards. Not sure if I'm a winner, but my email is crystal.houpe@southwestschools.org

  13. In my room, I introduce a new word family each week. I get the word families from a research based list of the top 37 or 38 (can't remember off hand) that are the most frequent. To introduce the families each week, I do a variety of things: concept attainment pictures, a read-aloud, a game featuring the family and more. Each day we do different activities to go along with the family of the week. We also incorporate the word family of the week into our reading groups. In addition to word family time, we do the Phonics Dance. It's a 15 minute, intense lesson each day. I do poems, worksheets, and games to go with the Phonics chunk of the week.

  14. I love to have my kids get a clipboard and read and write the room. They also walk around and search for sight words that may be found around the room.
