New Year New Giveaway

I have had the opportunity to use Learning Resources Hear All Assessment Recorder.
Who says a teacher can’t be in 2 places at once?

This device has been the centerpiece of all of my assessments (small group and individual conferences) since the beginning of school.

How do I use it you ask?

The beginning of the year I used it to record my students reading when I administered the Fountas and Pinnell Assessment System.

Fountas & Pinnell Benchmark Assessment System 1, 2nd Edition

Recording my students allowed me to revisit anyone I had questions about, to rate them for fluency and to take a closer look at my running records. I was able to pinpoint which early strategies they had in place and which strategies we’d work on in small group and individual conferences.

Recording during small group instruction has been really beneficial. I’m able to see who’s participating, who is catching on and who is having difficulties. I don’t know about you but sometimes during small group you’re not only teaching your group but you’re also trying to stop Johnny from sticking a crayon up his nose or giving Sally the stink eye, willing her to get back to work and stop dancing to music that nobody hears but her. The names have been changed to protect the innocent. :)

Weekly Fluency Grade: Starting the second half of the year I’ll give my students a bi-weekly fluency grade. They will use the recorder and tape themselves reading one of our fluency passages. Then I’ll go back and listen and rate them along a fluency scale.

The Hear All Recorder would be a good tool for use in your classroom. Would you like to have one of your very own?

Here’s what you have to do:

Like Learning Resources on Facebook.

Follow Learning Resources on Pinterest.

Follow my blog and leave a comment when you’ve completed all three.

You have until midnight Friday January 11th. The winner will be announced on Saturday January 12th. The winner must provide a mailing address.

Visit Learning Resources.

Visit their YouTube Channel.

Good luck. Next week you’ll have the chance to win the Easi-speak digital microphone.

 38. I am very grateful for sites like yours. This is my first year of teaching and I love all the creative ideas. I wish I could use them all. I worked in Title One as a parapro before getting my teaching certificate and loved to tape record my students reading. I only have a cassette tape recorder I borrowed from my Principal. Rural schools do not have the money for fancy gadgets. Thanks again for you site. I will also try for the micro phone next month. I really would like to get a set of six for my classroom. Have a great month!
