This month I’ve been focusing on Literacy and how I’d like to change things up a bit in my room. Well, I was re-reading this book and found a mini lesson I’d always wanted to do…but never quite got around to it. The book suggested using Max (from Max and Ruby), Fox (Fox on the Job and other Fox books), Henry, Mudge and the Little Critter characters to introduce the short vowel sounds. They would be great anchors…because most students are already familiar with them. So I created these posters to place in my room near my spelling chunk wall (more about that in another post) and thought you’d like a copy too.

What a great post! Why wasn't this an obvious idea before? Thank you! I linked this to 1st Grade CCSS links under Reading Foundational Skills.
